Default Bluetooth is OFF? - 06-13-2009, 08:07 PM

I have my mini paired with a couple of devices, a Nokia GPS receiver, and my iPhone. Today I went to pair it with my MacBook so the I could transfer some files, the two computers paired easily enough, but when I went to send the files the MacBook couldn't find the mini. When I checked the bluetooth status on the mini it was turned off and grayed-out!. Normally it's on and grayed-out... Before I couldn't turn it off, now I can't turn it on?!? and I have no idea how it turned itself off. I checked the BIOS setting and it's still on.
Anybody seen this one before?

Try running iSync. It is in your applications folder. It won't find anything to sync with but will detect the bluetooth and ask you if you want to turn it on. Hope that helps.

I actually arrived at a similar solution. When I ran the Bluetooth file transfer app it detected that the BT was turned off and asked if I wanted to turn it on. Once it was on it would remain on until I rebooted. Putting the mini to sleep and waking it also turned it on until a reboot. I later discovered that if I unpaired my MacBook, which started this problem, the BT was on and back to normal.

Do a search for "Bluetooth Terminal".. I forget the users name, but it's right in the thread. I found that once I did that hack, most of my Bluetooth issues seem to have disappeared.

Just happened to me yesterday and I did a time machine restore. While the restore was running I thought to search the forum and found this thread.

I downloaded it just in case it happens again

BTon and BToff work best with the terminal hack to be most effective (especially BToff)
