Default How do you use Dropbox on the Mini9? - 06-12-2009, 12:48 AM

I signed up for dropbox today. I have to say that it works very well at syncing things. I had thought that it would take a bit of pressure off of my tiny 16G SSD and my 16G SDHC. As far as I can tell it will not.

If I am correct it uses 2Gig of SSD space when fully loaded (assuming my dropbox account is 2G) Unless I am missing something it does not save space but rater facilitates getting the most out of those 2gig of space by making it super easy to get content onto and off of the mini.

Am i missing something?

Thanks

You are correct, on my Mini, I use the web page interface only, conserving the 16GB SSD.

Like FrankB said, if you want to use DropBox to conserve space, don't use the DropBox app on your mini 9, just use the browser interface to download/upload whatever files you need.

I've been debating how to use DropBox myself, but so far I am still using the app. I really like creating symlinks so that my address book, billings app data, all of my project files and anything else are automatically in sync between my mini 9 and iMac. I'm really impressed at how well it works.

I use Dropbox to sync files between my Mini 9, my work computer, and my home Mac desktop. The ease of use is more than worth the drive space for me (though I do have a 32GB SSD to play with!). I have used it to work on websites no matter what computer I'm on, to keep important files close at hand, and to transfer files from the office to the laptop to work on offsite (and then back again). It sure beats having to drag around a thumb drive.

Thanks for the responses. I will use it as my documents folder on the min. It seems like a good use of the valuable SSD space. Between mobile Me and Dropbox I am going to be in sync.

I use dropbox with a local folder on the disk to sync a lot of stuff between my mini and my MacBook Pro.

I can keep synced (using symbolic links when needed): address book, adium, things, devonnote, 1paasword, etc... This is really an excellent tool... if you want to try it, use my referral to get an account.

I use it mostly as a backup system for my thesis documents, and other assorted uni related documents. Also, I have a folder in which I drop my torrent files, which my home iMac scans and automatically adds to my Transmission client. Great stuff.
