Unhappy reinstall 10.5 over corrupt 10.5.7 - 06-10-2009, 04:25 PM

There have been many postings about 10.5.7 hosing the operating system and many different replies. Many people are stuck with suggested solutions are not working. One solution may be clearly to reinstall, using the original instructions beginning with the DellMiniBoot but I don't know if that will work.
I tried to boot from both the DellMiniBoot v.801 the original one that was used for the installation and still see the blue screen. Trying to boot into the OSX DVD same result--I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THIS THING cannot be undone. I notice many of us are at this position. Can any any of our gurus --and I mean that seriously with all respect, post a small tutorial about how the original OSX DVD can be reinstalled on systems that 10.5.7 has corrupted.

Default reinstall OSX 10.5 - 06-10-2009, 04:57 PM

While we are waiting on some expert opinions I am wondering of one can connect the mini to a another Mac and use the disk utility on the Mac to wipe the mini's hard disk clean--anyone has any ideas whether this is feasible and how to connect them--I can't believe this is TERMINAL.

First of all, make sure that Legacy USB is enabled in the BIOS.

I had a problem after updating to 10.5.7 but booting into safe mode & rerunning DellEFI a couple of times fixed everything.

Enabled USB legacy. Still can't even boot up in safe mode(shift key)-it just goes straight to the Mac Logo and spinning wheel then to a blue screen. Any suggestions for safe mode booting.

Still waiting on some experts. However the machine recognizes DELLMiniBoot 123 v.8.02b1 and gives me the option of choosing the DVD. However the computer crashes just after it seems to find the OSX DVD. Is there anything I can disable to prevent this. Somebody please --this sounds like a one man forum.

Did you try this?

Upgrading
1. Run the Combo Update (downloaded in Step 3 above)
2. Let the Mini reboot
3. Boot into SAFE MODE (DellEFI 1.1 use "-x" at the prompt | DellEFI1.2 hold SHIFT)
4. After booting into Safe Mode, run the DellEFI 1.1 or 1.2a5 (whichever you chose) *READ STEP 5 before running!!!*
5. You want to do a "Custom" DellEFI -- reinstall the Mini 9 Extensions and recreate custom dsdt.aml file
6. Reboot

Use the -x to get into safe mode even if you had used DellEFI1.2.

agianino,

Unable to boot in safe mode to run DeEFI. EVEN BY typing in -x or holding the shift key--the thing just goes to the Apple logo then hangs up on a blue screen. I have tried every command to get a safe boot (-x-f) (platform= x86 etc) but the machine just loads from the corrupt 10.5.7. Any other way of getting a Safe boot by going to the base INTEL set up.

Thanks
