Hi Guys,

I'm looking into getting a dell mini 9 [or possibly an eeepc 901 - advice??] and was just wondering how hot osx runs whilst doing mundane tasks like safari /mail etc as it has no fans. Thanks

Cool enough that I could leave it on my bare stomach while using it. If I had an actual IR thermometer, I'd get you an exact number.. So the best I can say is it doesn't get uncomfortable.

Excellent that's all I really wanted to know! Do you guys still think that the dell mini is the best one to go with to put os x on or would you have rather gone with something like the eee 901?

Definitely the best. All of the hardware works now. We have a very simple virtually automated install method. The price is outstanding, and the battery life is great. Oh, and our warranty actually gets honored. Something I've read doesn't always happen with the Eee..

I came home the other night to a very hot mini!
CPU temp was 181 degrees(f)

I now make sure to kill any evil processes before leaving the laptop all alone.
More than likely, a Flash applet was working the CPU hard for several hours.

..and I'm sure it didn't help that it was right up against a pillow, either

Hopefully the life of the components haven't been reduced too much, *sigh*

Unlike the first generation Macbook Air this machine can do hours of youtube without roasting your lap. I regularly stream ripped Dvd's over my network and while the machine gets warm and you can feel heat radiating from it I have not managed to get it really hot. At the worst it feels like a heating pad on low.
If you do install os x (type 11 and crew have done an amazing job) remember to run the color synch utility. After that the screen really pops.
I think the only real downside is the goofy ssd that Dell is using. However, if the guys get a fully implemented card reader driver done then that negates my only gripe about this amazing little machine.
