Default Dell EFI Bootloader Issue 8GB SSD - solved - 06-05-2009, 08:00 PM

I am having a problem getting the Dell EFI bootloader to work on my system. Everything runs smoothly and after I run the EFI program in OSX and reboot it can never boot off of the hard disk.

I am using the MBR partition vs the GUID due to the extra space savings, is this causing the problem with the bootloader?

MBR works just fine, I use it on my Mini. What options are you selecting in DellEFI? You need to make sure to check the option to reinstall the bootloader. Also, is this an upgrade or a clean install? If an upgrade, what version were you running before, and if it is clean, what instructions are you using to install with?

It is a clean install and I am using your great directions (many thanks) with the modified osinstall.mpkg.

Do I need to boot into safe mode when I run EFI to reinstall the bootloader?

I was doing a reinstall using the single USB drive and I noticed that after the install failed and when I ran the postinstall command in terminal it gave me an error saying that it could not install Chameleon on my disk.

First make sure that the partition is named OSXMINI9. Also try another install since it is not a perfect process and may glitch out every now and then. You may need to use safe mode in order to boot in, you may also need to use the USB drive in order to select the SSD for boot.

I think the problem is that the partition on the SSD is not active, trying to use fdisk to get it working...

partition is named OSXMINI9 and I am on my fourth reinstall unfortunately.

Have you tried recreating the flash drive? I have had issues in the past and found that simply redoing the drive fixes the problem.

It turns out that the problem was with the chameleon boot loader. It kept on trying to install the software on the RDisk0s2 partition. Since I was running using an MBR instead of a GUID I did not have an RDisk0s2 partition, only RDisk0s1 partition. I repartitioned using GUID which created two partitions on the drive, reinstalled, and it was successfull.

Mechdrew, thanks for taking the time to help and for all the great guides you have posted out there!
