Default battery life issues on 10.5.7 or DellEFI version - 06-03-2009, 04:03 AM

As soon as i upgraded to a runcore 16gb i decided to get a less slimmed down version of os x and as a result installed 10.5.7. I also used a newer version of DellEFI.

The problem that i am concerned about is the battery. Previously, on my STEC, it used to show 3:40 - 4:10 time left on a full charge... it varied and it usually was around that time depending on what i was doing. I was happy with this.

However, now, after installing 10.5.7 with the new version of dellEFI... it shows 2 hour max... now i am not sure if it truly gives me 2 hours or if it says that and actually gives me 3:40 to 4:10... does anyone know what is happening here and if there is anything i can do to fix this.

thats really weird, most people after the 10.5.7 update got a longer battery life, including me. I really have no idea whats causing you to lose battery life. Don't think its the update. I'll let you know if I think of something.

I think i should time the drainage in two different way because i really think it might just be the numbers that are wrong and not the actual battery life. I will attempt to see how long i can run the mini on the dimmest screen as well as the brightest. I wonder what is the best way to do this. Should i just play my itunes library to replace what i would usually do on the laptop.

Just try to re-install DellEFI 1.1:
"Custom" DellEFI -- reinstall the Mini 9 Extensions and recreate custom dsdt.aml file"
Worked with my one...

yup, remove and then reinstall dsdt.aml and it should fix the issue.

Hey guys, I just got a chance to do the dim screen test and i was correct. The battery as it showed had 68% and as for the time it said it was 1:22... i left itunes playing(muted) and it lasted 2 hours and 3 minutes. Even though it said 1:22 it lasted for 2 hours and since it was 68% i assume i ll be getting the same times.

My next question was how i go about fixing this and thanks for the replies as the posts above this tell me exactly what to do. Thanks i appreciate it.

Quick question however, do i have to physically delete the dsdt.aml file and then use dellEFI to recreate it. If so, where do i find this file?

Also, i used the dellEFI 1.2a.5.... can i still use 1.1 or should i stick with 1.1...

What options should i select?

I am interested in any answers for this as well After fully charging my Mini9 with the 10.5.7 update my mini went from 3+ hours shown to just below 2 (1:58).

I am currently 2:25 minutes into testing it playing a movie off the SD card non-stop and it says it is at 17% with 20 minutes left...so we will see how it turns out in the end.

I installed and updated OS X all the way to 10.5.7 on my Runcore then installed DellEFI 1.2a and mine shows around 4 hours coming off a fresh charge. Actually a bit more.

Just throwing out my info so maybe it'll help narrow down what's up.

Ok Update

I ran my Mini9 at lowest screen brightness with Wifi and BT turned off watching a movie off an SD card.

It said 1:58 minutes when I first went to battery.

It just went into forced sleep mode after 2:55. So I got 1 more hour out of it than the computer thought I could get.....but it is still not the 4+ hours some people are reporting, and this is with all the battery monsters turned off.

I was hoping the update would give me 4 hours too
