Default Should I upgrade to DellEFI 1.2a.5? - 06-01-2009, 03:50 AM

I have a running and stable 10.5.7 install using dellefi 1.1. Is there any reason to go to 1.2a.5?

If so, how should I do it?

If it's stable and doing everything you need, then I wouldn't mess with it.

If you want to run it, just download it and run it, custom install, check the top four options and the one for quiet boot. When it's done, don't reboot, run it again, custom, check the fourth box down only to rebuild the asdtd.aml file.

I copied my DellEFI into my Utilities folder and keep a spare on my SDHC card, just incase.

I've tried to run version 1.2a5 on my 10V with 10.5.7 and I have a big problem at reboot...
it starts ok but I get to the logon, the screen changes resolution/sync frequency (I don't know exactly) and is unreadable! :-(
I rebooted in safe mode, tried to rerun EFI version 1.1 but unfortunately the problem persists when I boot normally.

Any help appreciated :-)

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
I tried this a few days ago & came close to disaster.
Seriously, leave it alone.

If it's working fine there is really NO reason right now anyway to upgrade. There is a much bigger downside if you run into any issues. Leave well enough alone for now.

Yeah I believe that at this point I am going to leave it alone.

Rumor has it that Apple has begun seeding 10.5.8, so if we have to do a full restore next time I will just use the new version of DellEFI.

I would just like to say I concur with the other commenters here: don't mess with it when it's working fine. It's for that reason I haven't upgraded to 10.5.7: I finally have everything working well on my Mini 9, and I can't afford to waste the time needed to restore it should the update hose my system. Frankly, I'm content to hang around with 10.5.6 until 10.6 arrives, but by that time I will no longer be using my Mini 9 quite so much so I can just toy around with it if I want to.
