Post [HOW TO] Run Windows Games on Mac OS X - 05-28-2009, 04:04 PM

One of the problems of the Mac side is the lack of games. But there is hacky way to resolve this... There are two products, one free and the other commercial that allow you to run windows games on Mac OS X

Windows Games Seamlessly Integrated on Mac or Linux - CrossOver Games - CodeWeavers

TransGaming Inc.

the concept is simple: they use wine to "wrap" the game and make it work under Mac OS X.
It must be said that not all games work but big steps have been done.
Some tutorials to begin ciderizing:

Remember it's legal!! But you must have the original copy of the game!!!

Bye and good luck!!

Interesting, but speaking for myself, the number of games I play with any frequency has diminished to the point where this wouldn't be necessary. World of Warcraft is my main game now and it runs natively in OS X. I hear it's barely playable on the Mini. <<shrug>>

Frankly, game performance from all titles (workaround or not) is still limited by the Atom processor. Unless you like Wolfenstein 3D or early Doom graphics, I'd say it's best to play the better, more modern games on desktop PCs or a more powerful Mac running BootCamp.

I'll buy a DELL Mini for other reasons ... gaming is not one of them.

YMMV.

I may try that out when I have some time. I agree though, that the atom processor and the intel graphics chip are the limiting factors on a lot of those titles. Fortunately for me, I enjoy retro gaming and there are still a lot of great titles I've missed in recent years that should provide opportunities on the mini.

Thanks for sharing.

No its fine - on lowest settings you get a frame rate of about 15 fps, but it doesnt stutter. Since I travel so much the mini is actually my main wow machine... it got me from 40 to 60 :-)
