Unhappy Upgrading from 8GB to 32GB HD Problem - 05-28-2009, 12:30 AM

I just bought a Runcore 32gb hd for my dell mini 9 that comes with the USB adapter. I was running OS X with the 8GB hard drive it had. I bought the dell mini 9 with OS X already installed on it but needed more space so I got the 32gb hard drive. I formatted the 32gb hd to Mac Extended (Journaled) and the GUID in the options and carbon copied (using the carbon copy application) but it won't boot eventhoug the carbon copy stated it would be bootable. I thought if I carbon copied the 8GB hard drive with OS X working on it already I wouldn't need to do the whole set up. Was I right? Did I do anything wrong? Pllleeeease help! Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks..

I've never done it before, as I don't have a RunCore, but I'd consider booting off the Dell boot CD (or USB key) and reinstall DellEFI.

Is there a difference between RunCore and any other SSD hard drive? I did not think so but since you mentioned it now you have me wondering. See the reason I did not boot off the dell CD is because I dont have a CD ROM on my dell mini 9 or an external one. That is why I opted for simply cloning the hd. Has anyone actually attempted this and been successful?

I honestly don't know. If you have a small USB key handy, you can put the Dell boot stuff on there and boot off that. If it works, you probably just need to reinstall DellEFI. Could be a certain file (dsdt.aml) that needs to be regenerated.

By USB key you mean a usb hard drive? I have a usb hard drive, where do I get the dell boot stuff? Sorry for the newb questions but I never did this as my dell mini 9 came with OSX already installed. Thanks man.

Downloads | DellEFI | mechdrew

DellMiniBoot is what you want, the 8.0.2.b2 or something like that.

Check the site for the guide, there's a couple of tutorials for doing installs using the USB keys (versus a full blown USB hard drive). Obviously you don't need to do the install part, just the parts to generate the key and then boot from it.

Hope that helps some.
