Ok, I can 100% confirm that using the downloaded MirrorDisplays app with a 15 PIN VGA CABLE (did not work with the 14 pin) I was able to successfully extend (but not mirror) my desktop. I plugged in the display, got the garbled screens, pressed Command (or Alt if you left the default key layout) and space bar, then typed mirror and then hit enter. Tada! Again, it is extended and not mirrored, but I'll take that. Let me know if anyone has questions.

*Correction - Once I set the resolution, I was then able to use a 14-Pin VGA cable with the same success. Not sure if I did something wrong the first time or what, but both cables will work now to extend the desktop.

You must be the only one then, what monitor/resolution is the monitor working at?

is it mirrored or is it just extended, I still can't get any of it to work under 10.5.7 with 1.2

-Dell Mini 9 - Refurb $269: Obsidian Black, 32GB STEC SSD, 8GB Kingston SDHC (left from previous owner), 2GB 667Mhz RAM, 1.3MP Camera, Bluetooth, Mac OSX 10.5.7
-Dell e1705 - New $1055: ATi X1400 OC/ed 175% faster, XPS 1710 Heatsinks, XPS 1710 Body
e1705 is old, it needs not to be upgraded, but rather be replaced.
