Default Dell Vodafone SIMM in Optus iPhone?? - 05-26-2009, 12:27 PM

Hi all, I have a Dell Mini 9 running OSX working fine on the Vodafone Australia network.

My question is this... I have a friend who has a spare iPhone, originally from the Optus network, but never activated and in want of some use.

What would happen if I were to use my Vodafone SIMM in this iPhone? I guess I would ultimately like to share my monthly data usage between my Dell (which came with its own phone number) and the iPhone... At the moment it would be a hassle to swap the simm card to use either the phone or the dell, but I am wondering would there be something to stop me from doing this at all?

Would the SIMM just work as a vodfone plan (with my vodafone phone number) if I shoved it in the iPhone when I needed to use it? Or is my vodafone simm somehow tied specifically to the serial number of my dell?

Any comments much appreciated..

The iPhone is probably locked to the Optus network. You've have to get it unlocked before you could use the Vodafone Sim card in it.
