Wink Some issues about installing on a 8GB SSD Dell Mini - 05-26-2009, 11:06 AM

Hi.
I successfully installed Mac OSX Leopard 10.5.6 wwith DELLEfi method.
Works great except for two issues:

1) Dell Mini maps che Command key with Alt key, but there is no mapping for Option key, and so I can't type some special key as "@". I have an Italian keyboard. How can I resolve this issue?

2) I installed two finger scroll with DellEfi, but it doesn't work. Also the single finger scroll doesn'work.

I want also exchange ideas about how organize the system.
My Dell Mini has a 8GB SSD drive. After cleaning, OSX leaves 1 GB free. Not so much. Instead of buying a RunCore 16-32Gb SSD, I think to use a 16GB SDHC like a second partition, mounting on it at least some huge applications (like OpenOffice and ILife) and "Download" folder. My goal is to have a running minimal system without this SDHC - so it can use other SDHC (to see movies, photos, etc.) - and return to a "rich" system (with Office, ILife, etc.) when the 16GB card is inserted.

There's out there someone else who has similar problems and arranged other solution? Let's talk about it!

I am running 8Gb SSD & 8Gb SDHC, with XSlimmer used on a number of apps, and moving the larger ones to the SDHC card I am still running at 1Gb free on the SSD.

I moved my home (incl. downloads) folder to the SDHC, created another applications folder on there and moved the larger apps onto it.

The main issue you will have is that most core apps like ilife / iwork wont install to the SDHC initially so you will need to install them one at a time, then move them to the SDHC.
e.g. install iWeb, move it, then delete the original, install iPhoto, then move it, then delete the original etc.

I am running
- iLife (just iPhoto & iWeb)
- NeoOffice (decided iWork was too large an install)
- iTunes / Quicktime

That takes care of everything I need to do, i.e. word processing, web creation and photo manipulation.

I will use:
- iPhoto (only this one);
- NeoOffice;
