Default Internal drive shows up as only having 5.8GB available on 8GB drive - 05-20-2009, 05:40 AM

So I finally got my A90 with an 8GB SSD in it and started installing OSX. I followed the excellent guide by mechdraw and created a bootable flash drive without any issues from a 10.5.6 retail disc. The problem is that when I go into disk utility and partition (erase) the drive, it shows a max size of 6.8GB total but only 5.8GB available. There's absolutely nothing on the drive but to make sure I repartitioned it in terminal with diskutil. I've tried splitting the drive into a tiny partition and one that would still be 6GB so that I could install. It still takes part of the drive away and shows it's being used. I'm not sure if this is possibly an error with the installer that's modified by the DellEFIBootMaker0.3.2. Should I try with 0.3.3 even though I've only got 1GB of RAM? I've tried searching and can't seem to find this issue happening with anybody else.

Thanks, in advance, for the help.

This is actually an issue with the components that are installed by default. You actually need to modify the installer in order to slim it down a bit. I have a guide that hasn't been updated since April (but still useful) available on my site:

It should still be valid. The only thing you are doing is changing a few values in a specific file.

This is fantastic. I got everything installed, slimmed down, and now I'm updating to 10.5.7. This seems to be the final hurdle. Thanks.
