Default Help trying to recover from bone-head move - 05-17-2009, 08:51 PM

I used Monolingual to remove a lot of crap. Without paying attention, I deleted my US keyboard. I know I need to reinstall, but the boot loader won't allow me to do so. It is the chameleon bootloader. Here's what I'm doing:

1) Load the Boot CD and at startup choose option "0"
2) Select USB CD / DVD Drive
3) at the Boot Prompt, "esc" so that I can enter my drive option.

At this point, the computer boots form the harddrive, not from the CD where my Type 11 bootloader is.

I can't browse the install CD to find the Applekeyboardlayouts.bundle Everything appears to be compressed in one install file.

When I try to install within my Mini9 all goes well, until I have to enter my password. The keyboard is farked and it won't let me past the passwd from a text file that I have.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Default Problem solved - 05-17-2009, 10:08 PM

I found the source of my trouble. I had disabled "Legacy USB Support" after my last install and that is why I couldn't install from my USB DVD-R. Reinstall is going well and I'm a lot more relaxed.

Moral of the story: When playing with system files, be careful. Don't delete until you know the consequences.

I did the same thing. I copied the Applekeyboardlayouts.bundle from another Mac. Its in the /System/Library/Keyboard Layout directory. I copied it to a directory on the ssd that didnt require a password. Then I rebooted into single user mode (-s) and copied the file over to the same directory it was in on the Mac. Rebooted again and voila!

Thanks for your comment and help. I didn't think about single user mode. That would have made all the difference. That one goes into the "restore instructions" in Evernote.
