Default Tethering HTC G1 to 802.11g on Leopard - 05-17-2009, 07:12 PM

I'm going to be buying a Mini 9 and installing Mac OS X on it as soon as another coupon code comes around (can't believe I missed the last one by two days...). My main drive to buy a netbook suddenly is discovering the ability to tether my G1 phone and provide internet to it anywhere.

I read somewhere that the G1 can't tether to a Mini 9 running Mac OS if it has the stock wireless card, but it will work fine with the one that is more expensive. I know absolutely nothing about how the two different wireless cards differ and whether 802.11g is the stock one or not, but it's the only option on the Dell website where I plan to order (atleast for the Mini 9 package I'm customizing).

If anyone has any experience tethering their HTC G1 to their Mini 9 running Leopard, I'd appreciate any advice or comments concerning your experiences.

I'm tethering my G1 to the mini9 and I think I have the stock wireless card. It's working just fine.
I'll check in a bit to see which card I actually have.

Hmm, I can't seem to figure out how to look up what card I have. Anybody know?

It works just fine with the stock Dell hardware. You'll need to root your G1, then install android-wifi-tether. The app just creates an ad-hoc wifi network that any device can connect to. It works well and it's pretty speedy, but you can easily blow through a full battery charge in an hour, so you'll want to charge your G1 via USB while tethering.

Dell Mini 9 | Mac OS X 10.6.2 | 2 Jigabytes RAM | 32 Jigabyte STEC SSD | Bios A05
NetbookInstaller 0.8.3 | USB Legacy Mode off | No camera

Yeah my phone is rooted and I have everything ready as soon as I actually get my mini 9. I was just troubled by the issue of it possibly not working with Mac Os X with the stock wireless adapter but apparently that is unfounded. Thanks!
