Exclamation DellEFI Guide v3 [OUTDATED -- Use NetbookInstaller] - 05-17-2009, 10:58 AM

I have updated the guide with new information reflecting the latest DellEFI software and 10.5.7 upgrade information. Please check it out at the same old address and direct all new questions and comments here. (The old thread is simply massive at this point.)

I still have the old guide hosted at my new website, DellEFI | mechdrew

Please remember to keep all comments and questions here, as the forum moderators have asked to keep replies out of the FAQ section. Thanks for all of the forum members who have helped along the way. And as always, a big thanks to bmaltais and meklort for all they have done.

Thanks for all the effort in producing the guides. I was able to install OS X with no serious glitches, just a few repeat steps to correct my own mistakes. Mini 9 has BT, Wireless, 2 gb, 1.3 megapixel camera and the STEC 32 gb ssd. All OS X features are working well. I reduced the no. of colors from millions to thousands in the displays prefs, and the video streams from Hulu and Fox with almost no frame drops that I can see.

Looks pretty good, only note is that forgot to tell people to disable legacy usb support again at end so that sleep will work properly.

Fixed that on both here and my site. I also added the notes about BlueTooth settings since not having BlueTooth turned on allows some benefits to the sleep process.

Great work! Makes it almost look simple...

I'm running a type11 install of leopard 10.5.5, is there any way I can easily update to the DellEFI method?
(and what would the advantages be?)
Would rather not do a complete reinstall as I've been using the dell for almost 7 months now!

Thanks everyone here for all your work!

Best wishes,

elgreco

Yes, it is easy. As always I would recommend making a backup, Disk Utility will work fine, in case something does go wrong. You're first item of business is to install DellEFI 1.2a5 with the settings in the guide, but before restarting you need to install the 10.5.7 combo update. Pretty much follow the guide as if it were a new install, at least from the point of the first boot. (Steps 8 - 10)

The advantages are updated drivers that make things work a little better (battery, SDHC, keyboard mapping, video, etc.), a new bootloader that makes multi-boot exceptionally easy, and an easy upgrade path for future OS updates.
