can't boot into any other modes.

I've tried a bunch of stuff but chameleon seems to be hanging me up because I have dual boot setup (OSX/Ubuntu). I can't get it to boot into safe mode or anything. I tried recreating my setup/boot disks so I could boot with a usb drive to run the delefi util but even that doesn't want to cooperate. I go through the steps and get stuck on the bootmaker which starts then automatically terminates before giving me any options. Any ideas would be much appreciated. If I could just get into safe mode I think I'd be all set. Thanks in advance.
Switch to NetbookBootMaker (instead of DellEFIBootMaker) and then boot into the Mac OS X Installer. Under the Utilities menu you will find NetbookInstaller..., use that to reinstall the bootloader on your machine. Link in signature.

I've installed leopard on two mini 9's with the exact same specification, but sometimes they will freeze up, then after a forced restart, the commandline comes up with 'no operating system found'. I then go through the install process again and when I go into disk utility, the partition has disappeared. They both have 32gb Crucial SSDs.
Is this to be expected or are the SSDs faulty? How can I prevent this.

No idea. I've never heard of a disappearing partition, and I can't vouch for the validity of Crucial SSDs. Sorry.

I'm using a Vostro A90 with the stock 16GB SSD, 1GB RAM (for now - I'm going to order the 2GB upgrade this weekend), and BIOS A04. I'm running 10.5.6 right now with no problems, but I wonder what 10.6 will do?

I'm definately going to do a full TM backup first in case I have to go back to Leopard, but does anyone have any tips?

Thanks!
The only advice I can give you is to look at the Snow Leopard subforum, they have many threads there for installing Snow Leopard, but it's not easy at the moment. I will be checking into SL once I get my Windows-only install guide finished.

Default Monitor mirroring? - 09-01-2009, 06:33 AM

Like an idiot I accidentally turned on Mirroring for the second monitor on my Vostro A90 - dumb! - and now I can't fit it. I know that I can reset the PRAM/NVRAM by holding option+command+P+R during start up on my iMac but it doesn't work on my mini.

Anyone else make this mistake......and fix it? Is there a Terminal command to reset the NVRAM or at least reset the monitor settings to stock? Or (even better) a way to get mirroring to work on the Dells?

I wouldn't even do this if I didn't need to run a ProPresenter show and I'd really like to use my Mini instead of lugging my iMac all across town.

Dang - do I need to reinstall OS X.......again?

Vostro A90, 1GB RAM, stock 16GB SSD, BIOS A04, OS X 10.5.6

********UPDATE 9/1***********
Nevermind the above: I got it. Through a little research I found that Hackintosh's don't USE NVRAM so you can't reset it. I fixed the monitor problem by using the Mirror Displays app (http://www.fabiancanas.com/Projects/MirrorDisplays/) - it took me a bit but I figured out that I had to position my cursor over the app icon, plug in the second monitor (screwing up the picture on both) and then blindly double click. Now Extended Desktop - and ProPresenter - work great.

I think tomorrow I'm going to do a clean install anyway using the NetbookBootMaker so I can run 10.5.8 easily.

Thanks!

When I try to choose my USB key with the iso file (using http://osx.mechdrew.com/guides/oldguide.shtml with Windows only) I get a kernel panic error. How can I begin to figure out what is going wrong?

using 10.5.7 with miniboot123v8.02b1

Just a bit more detail - I can get into the bootloader, up the step where I choose 81 for the USB Key, and then it happens.

If I choose to just boot straight to the USB key it says

boot0:testing
boot0:error

in case that helps.

I using a dell mini 9, I used the 10.5.6 CDs to install OS X and it is running pretty slow and will not create the dsdt.aml file with dellefi1. Any idea what this could be? I am using dellEFI1.2A5

EDIT: Ok I got it to install but its still running kind of slow. Any idea what the problem could be?

Smile noob update Question OSX 10.5.8 - 09-17-2009, 04:25 PM

Hi
I just created my DellMini 9 Mac.
The creation went very well and I am very please with it

One small issue: I just updated my OS to 10.5.8 using the "software update" utility. Now I have no audio. I think I had audio in 10.5.7 but can't prove it.

Am I suppose to reinstall the DellEFI after each update or what do I need to do here? If so where in the Guide V3 do I start?

Sorry to ask here but I just signed up for the forum and can not figure out how to create an original post.

Thanks
Oak
