Default Update Disaster - 05-16-2009, 07:38 PM

I just updated and now my Dell will not work. It starts up and goes to a liney screen with no icons. I do have a curser.

More info is needed. What OS? Windows? Linux? OS X?

If it's OS X, go check the OS X forum. Huge thread there about 10.5.7 issues.

Ok this is in the wrong section and you haven't specified what you've updated or even what Dell Mini your talking about.

Please do not send me support requests via PM.

According to his previous posts, he's running OS X. I'm moving this thread there.

No disaster, just boot into safe mode and reinstall
Dell efi.. If you were running Dell efi 1.1 or earlier, you enter safe mode
by typing -x at the boot prompt (you may need to hit fn-f8 to pull up the prompt)

if you were running a Dell efi 1.2 alpha and have the chameleon bootloader, just hold
down shift on boot.

Appleguru gave good info, it's a known issue that another member of the forum here (conq) discovered the solution for it.

Read here:

This was in the major post thread of mac osx arriving - it gives specifics on what to do, although it discusses dellefi 1.1, it applies to 1.2.

You may have to do the dellefi twice.

Although there will probably be no more major rollups with snowleopard so close, if there are, or if we ever get snowleopard on the mini you'll prolly wanna check threads the discuss major rollup updates before applying them (I know I did, and it saved me a lot of headache)
