Default Stuttering sound - 05-16-2009, 05:10 AM

Update: When I first wrote this, I thought that Skype was not affected. It turns out that this was was because XBMC was running in the background.

Update Update: I forgot to mention: OS X version 10.5.6 with DellEFI1.2a5.

I'm having a sound problem, and it's not the static problem. Sound stutters and slows down so much that most audio is unlistenable. System alert sounds, iTunes, Flash, Skype and Spotify are all affected.

On the other hand, playing mp3s in XBMC works perfectly. Also, when XBMC is running, the stuttering in other programs is much reduced so, for instance, Skype becomes usable.

I've searched the forums, and found two other mentions of this problem:

In this case, the problem was fixed by installing OS X on the internal SSD instead of a MicroSD card. That doesn't help me, because OS X is already on an internal SSD. I tried reinstalling OS X anyway, but found no improvement.

It was this post was that gave me the idea to try XBMC. There is no mention of a fix.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Dell Mini 9, with 32 GB SSD and 2 GB RAM. No Bluetooth. No WWAN.
