Default 10.5.7 Battery life - 05-14-2009, 01:03 PM

Hello all,

There are some reports trickling that indicate impressive gains on battery life for hackintoshes upgraded to 10.5.7. I haven't updated myself and don't really see any reason to. As a longtime Mac user, I know that you really shouldn't upgrade unless you need to. I installed the update to my TiBook and it seems fine, but lots of people are reporting issues with the Mini 9.

The battery life is one issue that needs help on the 9 under OS X. For those of you who have updated. Do you see any improvements in battery life. Some sites are reporting up to 1.5 hour increases in battery life. This I think is good enough reason to make the leap to 10.5.7

I haven't really noticed, but I haven't really paid any attention as my Mini 9 is admittedly plugged in most of the time.

My Mini 9 used to claim around 3:30-3:40 battery life under 10.5.6 with the stock battery and DellEFI 1.1.

Now under 10.5.7 (using the instructions from Conq, but upgrading to DellEFI 1.2b5 due to a hang whenever sleeping), it's claiming around 4:45! There have been other changes which could influence this - I've upgraded to DellEFI 1.2b5 and installed the Bluetooth fix mentioned in my .sig.

I don't know for sure if it's a false claim or not, but this article from Wired suggests there really is something to it!

Note that DellEFI versions before 1.1 used to estimate the battery life using a very simple algorithm, whereas later versions correctly measure usage and remaining power. The remaining time varies according to use, and should be an accurate estimate now rather than a reassuring fiction. As I moved form 1.1 to 1.2, this isn't what's changed here.

I wonder if VoodooPower will still impact battery life like it does under 10.5.6.

It appears that DellEFI 1.1, I register 4 hours after full charge.

With DellEFI1.2a5, I only register 1.57 hours.
I've regenerated my dsdt, reinstalled kext,etc... I only get 2 hours with 1.2a5

I seem to have jumped from 3:30 - 3:40 on 10.5.6 to 4:15 with 10.5.7. No other changes so seems to be the OS.

Default bat life - 05-14-2009, 04:55 PM

While it shows 4:27 on 10.5.7 for me I moved open office from an sdhc card back to the sd and battery life dropped to 3:56 (after about 4 min of use)

I think that if you are just surfing you might get close to this time however for drive intensive use I suspect that you will get nowhere near this time...

Maybe apple has been optimizing for atom processors in order to release a new netbook or something.

I don't think Apple will use that cheap Atom processor for their iNetbookTouchTabletTV, it is not going to handle HD stuff.
