Default Internal Microphone Not Working - 05-13-2009, 08:08 PM

I have a Refurbished Mini 9. I'm using Mac OS 10.5.7. Everything is working fine except that my internal microphone doesn't work. I went to System Preferences > Sound > Input and it detects the internal microphone. I turned the input volume all the way up and it still doesn't pick up anything. I don't believed it worked before when it was 10.5.6 either. Beforehand I had Ubuntu 9.04 installed and I don't think I tried the microphone with that OS.
I have two questions:
1. If the microphone was disabled/turned off in Ubuntu, would that setting carry over to Mac OS? I've read about that happening with bluetooth/wifi.
2. Could it be that Dell sent me a Mini 9 that has a broken internal mic?
