Default Safe boot into Setup Assistant creates non-admin user - 05-13-2009, 07:17 PM

I've run into a problem with the OS X install on a Mini 9. After installing from an external USB flash drive, I reboot to begin the initial setup process. As has been reported here by other users, I get caught in a loop after the "transfer my data" step in the setup.

Following suggestions posted here, I booted into safe mode, which seems to get me all the way through the setup procedure, but the user that is created IS NOT an admin. This makes further operations on the machine impossible, since an admin account is required.

I have tried booting from the install drive and setting a root password, but I cannot access the root user at the login screen.

The only solution I see is repeated attempts at a system install until I can get all the way through the setup.

Has anyone else run into this problem? Is there a solution I've overlooked?
