I am still having issues with the garbled screen. I updated from Software Update (before reading the forum posts). I have booted into safe mode and followed Conq's instructions for DellEFI (1.1) from there. I'm still experiencing the garbled screen when I boot into normal mode. I can get to safe mode with no issues. Any ideas?

I was able to get this working after all. I was using the wrong DellEFI it turns out!

Got the same screen as everyone else! Booted Safe Mode (holding CNTR) and re ran Dell EFI 1.1

Update went fine for me. Only oops was after the install and reboot it rebooted again by itself. Went back -x and everything was fine. Only things I had to do were run DellEfi 1.1, about this Mac and reinstall 2 finger scrolling.

Keep trying- I had to go into safe mode and uninstall and reinstall using DellEFI a number of times before it finally stuck. Be patient.

So frustrated. Got the combo update, installed it, reboot, then a kernel panic when I try to boot into safe mode. Had anyone else had this problem?

Thanks Conq for the installation procedure.

Looking at the BOM file, there were quite a few updates here and there to various programs - and a lot of it is useless PowerPC code.

Anyone who likes a slim system like me, you can trim these applications with Xslimmer or similar.

I had somewhat blindly allowed the software update to automatically move me to 10.5.7 and experienced the problems that many are experiencing. I grabbed DellEFI v1.1, followed conq's directions and all is well on 10.5.7.

Yes, as noticed above, you definitely want to use DellEFI 1.1 or above. These versions will patch the newly installed kexts, while previous versions will just copy over old ones and will result in no change.

Pressing the control key after the BIOS screen did not produce a boot prompt. The gray startup screen with the spinning thing at the bottom as usual then it restarted again. This is a common Mac thing after some updates: double restarts.

After restarting the 2nd time I got the garbled white screen & hit the power button then enter & after a few seconds, it turned off. (probably rebuilding boot caches)

On the 3rd restart I got the generic Apple desktop with a login window. After logging in, my usual desktop appeared & everything seems to be hunky-dory. I haven't run DellEFI yet & About this Mac show it as 10.5.7.
