Ok all, maybe someone can assist.

I downloaded the Combo Update 10.5.7
Ran the Combo Update
Followed the instructions to teh letter including chose Custom on both the DellEFI 1.1 and later tried the 1.2a5 with only the "reinstall the Mini 9 Extensions checked and create custom dsdt.aml file. while in safe mode.

When I reboot, what I get is a screen initially that shows about 3 mouse arrows kinda stretched as then a blue screen then a white screen with one of those rainbow circles that show the system is working I have left it running for 1 hour but nothing else happens.

Two items of potential note.....
1) when installing 10.5.7......all went well but the machine didn't auto restart, instead I had to eventually press and hold the Power button.

2) After the DellEFI 1.1 or DellEFI 1.2a5 again the machine goes through the process says all went well but the machine never completely shuts down and again I have to hold the Power button.

Any help on getting my machine back in working order would be great

dont dare try to install 10.5.7 using software updater. Download the update from the link . even if you do use software updater go back and download the 10.5.7 from the link here while in safe boot and install it then follow the directions from the original how to.

Well, that's an alternative input! Those reading this thread can follow Mario's advice or take a risk with mine. So far my Mini is working fine on 10.5.7 that came from software update (installed on a Mac on Runcore first) and it did need a little safe boot fixing to fix a funky screen problem. I do hope it won't prove to be a problem. It's behaving fine so far.

Hi Conq,

I was naive enough to run the software update before looking at this forum and seeing the cautions and advice. Now I need to undo the damage. I am a dedicated MAC user and unfamiliar with Windows, DellEfi etc, but I am very familiar with the MAC. Do you know of anyone on this forum who would be generous enough to step me through how to undo the damage I did by running the software update. Is there a way to proceed from there or do I need to rerun the combo or incremental update off of a USB drive while booted in safe mode? Any idea? Many many thanks. I only had my mini for 2 weeks before I managed to bring down OSX with the update. It was running 10.5.6 perfectly before that.

What was the safeboot fixing you did successfully as I also already ran the software update and now have a nice grey screen with scratch lines on it.

Can the install of 10.5.7 fit onto an 8GB SSD, or is 16GB required?

Actually I have 2 mini 9. I can install onto the one with the 16GB drive and get 10.5.7 fat and happy. I mean, skinny and happy. Then I just have to figure out how to move that install over to the one with the 8GB drive.

Had a perfectly working Mini 9 with osx 5.6 FOR 6 WEEKS until today. Followed all directions on the site to upgrade using the apple Software update that seemed to work for some. First I had the grey screen with lines. Now I have a blue screen that does not advance. Worse I can't sen to do a safe booth--the machine just does not safe boot even at the boot prompt.
Anyone has any ideas what I can try to safe boot again and rerun DelEFI

If nothing works, is restoring from 10.5 an option without having to start from the beginning.

everything worked fine here ... currently on 10.5.7 and everything seems to be running smoothly.

I am trying to patch my 10.5.6 to 10.5.7. Install went well, I just need to run the EFI again and get my video drivers back and loose the blue grey screen with lines....

I boot into Safe Boot and it prompts for my Admin password. I enter the password, it accepts it. the login screen disappears for about 20 seconds and then goes right back into the Safe Boot login screen.

Can anyone help?

I am trying to safe boot my attempted update of OSX to 10.5.7 and screwed it up--now I cannot safe boot to try to rerun DELEFI. I noticed you had a post about Chameleon. I went into the set-up menus to try to find safe boot but cant find it under boot --can you tell me where I can find that command.
