ok after booting into safe mode (-x) the screen is still garbled with just the pointer working. I am sure the system has booted because my external DVD spins up then down after a few minutes.

any ideas on how to get video back?

Here's my issue...

After doing the 10.5.7 update, I can only seem to get into normal mode or safe mode via an external monitor. Whenever I just want to go to the laptop screen, it gets stuck at the blue screen. Any help?

Edit: Using Boot123 to load seems to work and get me to the laptop screen. As soon as I start regularly, back to blue screen...

could be unrelated, but did you make sure you formatted the SSD to GUID before installing using disc utility on the mac OS X disc?

I up grade first ssd 32g no pb
I change my ssd to a 64g who work perfectly with 10.5.6
I upgrade to 10.5.7
when I restart in safe mode I get OSX 10.5.7 in about your mac
The pb is when I use delleffi to change the extension when I load the program he quit....
So I can't install the new extensions
Is it possible to find the extension and instal them manualy ?
so I can use my ssd card.
What can I do ?
I try Dellefi 1.1 and 1.2
How can I return to 10.5.6 ????

Yes, it was formatted to GUID

Edit: success: used the new EFI 1.2a5 and installed the Chameleon bootloader during the creation of the dsmt.aml file. Worked afterwards...

Something must have been sour with the bootloader since it worked with Chameleon...

I've reinstalled, clean reinstalled, 7x erase and reinstalled, upgraded to 10.5.7 with no issues, run EFI 1.1, run EFI 2.x, and done everything else I can think of, and it still will not recognize the airport card. It worked fine until I accidentally upgraded to 10.5.7 without reading up on it first.

Does anyone have a suggestion or idea on this? please? A netbook with no networking is just a shiny piece of plastic.

Seems unlikely, but perhaps the update turned off your card. I don't mean in the BIOS, but similar to what many who have disabled the wireless card in Windows or Ubuntu before installing Mac OS and then have to backtrack in order to get the wireless going again. You should download a live version of Ubuntu and use the wireless utility from Dell to see if it somehow was turned off.

Thanks all. Followed the instructions exactly using Dell EFI 1.2a5 and to my joy all worked flawlessly. I sincerely appreciate the hard work that goes into this site and the practices shared herein, in addition to the code that those marvelous people build to make the Mini 9 function with my preferred OS.

Amazing... that got me into pluging in an external monitor... and then, voilÃ*. I could easily run DellEFI 1.2a5 and reinstall Dell's extensions, and on reboot, everything was fine.
