I can always get back into safe mode using USB Boot123.
Any other tips? Whenever I'm done installing the extensions and creating the custom dsdt, I reboot normally and I get stuck at the blue screen. |
Me too, except I can't get back into Safe Mode. I've used the Leopard DVD (in conjunction with Boot123 on CDROM) to get a terminal window and delete the Extra and Extra.bak directories. If I do a graphical boot, it's the gray Apple screen with the endless rotating circle gizmo.
So I've tried a verbose boot. It gets to this point:
localhost /usr/sbin/kdcmond[incrementing number]: kdcmond could not launch krb5kdc due to absence of localhostname
I've gotten to about ten iterations of that before I press the power button. I used the Leopard DVD (again, with Boot123) to get a terminal to try editing /etc/localhostname. However, I can't find vi or any edit tool when I boot that way. So I removed /etc/localhostname.
Same thing with the verbose boot. Keeps trying to launch kdcmond.
I foolishly have not backed up this build. With a 16 GB HDD, I obviously don't have a lot of files. However, I did have all my software loaded and configurations set. Plus, it's simple geek pride to want to repair rather than rebuild.
Anyone know the path back to the light from here?
