people who are experiencing fuzzy screen, artifacts, etc should REALLY take the time to read this ENTIRE THREAD as it is quite likely that the solution to your problem lies within.

there are a majority of successful installs using conqs method as described on page one and referenced on nearly every subsequent page.

i have not personally read of any success stories using OSXs built-in Software Update utility so i would suggest not using that method if at all possible.

the actual benefits of updating to 10.5.7 in the first place are in dispute so don't feel like this is a "must upgrade" situation. 10.6 is going to be out in a few more months anyway so you won't be missing much by skipping this update altogether.

Man I must have got lucky. I must admit that during the process the ex was txting me and I while I was trying to do 2 things at once and I wasnt concentrating to much, BUT I did ultimately get it to work. I did run DellEFI 1.1 Final a couple of times, a few reboots and then DellEFI 1.2a5, a few reboots, both kind of alternately and it all appears to be great. Sleep works beautifully. However I must admit that over the last 8 weeks since purchase it has hung a few times, but now it appears to be rock solid. It is a dream to be able to come home, pull the mini out of my bag, flip the screen up, and it comes to life INSTANTLY from sleep, everything working perfectly. Havent tried out the bluetooth with my nokia 6300 but will tonight. Airport works well at work and at home. I must apologise to all for my lack of scientific approach to this but I just dont care if it breaks. If it didnt work I'd just spend the time to reinstall 10.5.6 or xp or whatever without slowly killing myself worrying about something that really wasnt the end of the world. Once again thanks to all for there hard work and good luck to everyone that attempts the 10.5.7 update. All the best,
Jo

I don't want to start any rumors. Can anyone who has installed corroborate or debunk the following: "Scattered reports indicate the the latest update to Leopard is giving a serious boost to the battery life of "hackintoshed" netbooks... A bunch of people running a hackintoshed Dell Mini 9 or MSI Wind are reporting an extra hour of battery life with 10.5.7 over 10.5.6," a developer told Ars. ...a user at MSI Wind forums... says he is seeing a full five hours from a six-cell battery with the update—a 33 percent improvement over the 3:45 he was able to get out of 10.5.6.

My guess is that Atom support has been added by Apple in 10.5.7. With 10.5.6 you can get around the same battery life by loading VoodooPower. I upgraded to 10.5.7 this weekend and did not put back in VoodooPower and my battery time shows a starting time of 5:13. With 10.5.6 and without VoodooPower I think I was getting in the low 3s.

can you use software update? I know some said you can't but I'm running an 8GB SSD with about 1.3GB free but the combo update needs 2.3GB expanded. to upgrade from 10.5.4 to 10.5.6 I had the same issue but could install each update individually to have enough room to expand each portion of the upgrade, not so with the 10.5.7 single combo update.

Any insight would be appreciated, thanks.

Have you looked at the delta rather than the combo download

just to clarify my dell mini locked up after installing 10.5.7 -- it wouldn't reboot, so i held down the power button until the light turned off, then i turned it back on, booted into safe mode, and followed the instructions from there.

I had autoupdate download the upgrade before I read the info here and proceed to download the comboupdate.

So what I wonder is how I can delete the allready downloaded files by the auto update software. Anyone?

Hopefully you will be able to get in at least once. When you do, don't bother with the dellefi until you plug in a USB drive and save the one file you need. (Might want to consider a small USB hard drive for time machine in the future, it's one of the best features on the mac, it restored my configuration (except the bootloader, I had to reinstall with dellefi custom) when I messed up an experimental bluetooth mod a few days ago). Time machine backups can also be read by any mac with leopard I think, not just the machine that made it.

Anyway, water under the bridge now, I would try the safe mode a couple more times just to make sure that is not working, I did have the dell freeze on me once in safe mode, but it was at the white screen. I tried it again and it worked a second time, so sometimes these things are finicky.

If you have a runcore drive you can hook it up via the USB to a real mac computer and pull the file off that way as well I would guess. The stock dell drive does not have this feature however. I have not heard of an external case or adapter that you can put the dell drive into to read it in another computer.

Can't think of anything else. Hopefully someone else has some suggestions that can actually help.

****EDIT****
The one extra thing I did that I did not mention was to remove the dell DSDT file, reboot back into safe mode, and then reinstall the DSDT file. (both are options under the custom tab in the dellefi. If you can get back in under safe mode, you may want to try that before doing anything drastic like a total reinstall.

awesome! thanks man! thank you soo much!

it worked!

only problem, my bluetooth doesn't work! its on.... but will not pair with anything!

thanks again man!
