Frankly, I'm using my mini for thesis work right now, and there doesn't seem too much in 10.5.7 to make me want to upgrade right now. Having said that, I applaud all of your efforts to make this as painless as possible.

I'm hoping that 10.6 will come out soon and can be made to run smoothly on my mini. If so, I will upgrade my mini then.

okay, removed the /extras folder in single user mode (forgot i had to mount the whole filesystem first, duh). still not getting the boot load business though. im supposed to boot from the optical disk, then tell it to boot from the internal hd? when i try that i just get blue screen again. what am i missing?

Apparently I did not know I had upgraded to 10.5.7 I have not noticed anything different running the same as i had before. My configurations is 1.2a5 (didnt install old gma kext, my dell efi files are not hidden and a few days ago I deleted the dsdt file the reinstalled it

Installed osx 10.5.7 last night from the combo. Rebooted in safe mode and ran delefi 1.2 alpha 5. I only had to reupdate beta 4 Safari.

Ran Monolingual again. My previous install was 8.5 gig and now is 13.8 gig. Do I have to delete anything else like a install file or this is the update, Larger??

Well I think I am the one that messed up my 10.5.7 install. When I ran the combo loader and then it rebooted it stayed on my background screen for a long time. Me being inpatient, hit the power button. I think this is what screwed it up. After that with 1.2 I could only boot into safe mode. Otherwise it would boot to a grey screen with a spinning beach ball. So I tried 1.1, then I couldn't get into safe mode. Sometimes it wouldn't even boot. I decided to just flatten and reload. When I got to the OSX installer, Disk Utility failed to re-partition the drive. It didn't even show up as a drive to install OSX on. So I reinstalled XP, although I probably could have just let XP delete the partition, but I wanted to get to a point where the mini would boot. Also I had installed OSX with XP already on the system so I wanted to get to a known state. After the XP install I was able to go back to the OSX installer and format the drive. It was getting late so I decided to stop there and try the install this evening. I think I will stay with 10.5.6.

Hi,

I'm new here (excellent forum BTW). however, I just wanted to suggest that one should create a disk image before attempting the 10.5.7 update. If things go bad you can restore back your SSD disk to 10.5.6 exactly as it was, just by using the installer and disk utility's restore option.

All you need to do is:

Boot with the installer
Enter disk utility
Unmount the startup disk (that's your SSD usually).
Create a disk image to an external drive

Once done, make sure you do a "Scan image for restore", just to make sure the image is OK.

I've imaged and restored my SSD disk a few times this way successfully. However, I didn't attempt to update to 10.5.7 yet.

I ran the updater without thinking about it and it seemed to crash at about 13% while writing files. I used the conq's method to restore and the about panel says that I'm at 10.5.7. Is this correct? Did the update actually work?

One minor annoyance is that my bluetooth settings were borked after the update and I had to pair with all my devices.

I stupidly ran the update from SU earlier and it had the typical video issues. Downloaded the combo updater & DellEFI alpha build, everything works like a charm.

Can't say the same for the dual 500 g4 under my desk though it doesn't like 10.5.7 lol
