Machine hanged at shutdown, doesn't boot normally.

Doing boot-132 and re-install of DellEFI.
Got Messed up video after startup. I have cursor but beach ball and no finder.

I have a clean 132 install with dell EFI 1.1. I will report back later.

I got the same thing. Video artifacts except for mouse cursor when I booted in. I think it modified the darwin startup because it takes longer to boot in than it was before the update. I would avoid this.

Rebooted again, still no normal boot. USB boot 132, option "-v" and screen is now garbled. Looks like I may have to resort to backup. Saw the diagnostic screen mention something about missing kext for video.

I'm downloading the update right now. I'll take a look at it with pacifist and if any of the extensions we patch are changed, you will want to rerun DellEFI before you reboot (just to be safe).

meklort, would that mean we would have to install the update by manually downloading it, rather than through Software Update? I would think that the fact that SU kicks itself out into its own little stripped down area would hinder the running of DellEFI.

I did the combo update with the file downloaded from the site (I didn't do the software updates). It doesn't allow you to do anything else, it will restart. How can you install the DELLEFI from command line , or can you install from another bootable drive (e.g USB)?

I just started in single console more, repair permissions. It boots now with NO garbled screen. Just black and cursor. no dock, no login screen, nothing.

I don't think it matters since you can still do things after SU runs and is done installing updates. Personally, I will be manually running the update (multiple computers, saves time), but I will be checking out what it actually does before I apply it.

If only the forum told you when someone posted something after you started a reply...

You can manually patch the files, but you have to look at the DellEFI source code and copy the commands. You also then have to manual update the extras directory.

I'm talking about how SU will say after downloading the major updates that you need to restart, and then applying the update in a "clean room", or at least that's what it seems like. In 10.4.X, you could do stuff whilst updating system components, but in 10.5.X, that doesn't seem possible.
