Default How to patch IO80211 kext from 10.5.0 ? - 05-08-2009, 01:30 AM

For some stupid reason a wpa2 network I use on my holidays address is not compatible with newer IO80211 kext's. I found out on my MacBook pro that replacing the 10.5.0 version does work correctly but simply replacing it in /extra/mini9ext and running update extra gives me no airport.

Help much appreciated since my dell mini9 is still maxi compared to my iPhone screen and keyboard.

DellEFI 1.1+ automatically patches the files included in your install. If you really want to, you can just copy the kext over the one located in /System/Library/Extensions/ and rerun dellefi and telling it to reinstall the extensions. This will patch the newly installed 10.5.0 version.

If you don't want to go that route, you can always look at the dellefi source code to see what command it runs, and then do those manually. There are only a few commands that you need to run (maybe one or two), but I don't know them off of the top of my head.

Thanks Meklort, that did the trick! (running dell EFI and reinstalling extensions)

Could have figured this out myself but due to the remarks of on the fly patching in 1.1 costing boot time (read this somewhere on googlecode) i thought the patching was done during early boot stage.

Now posting on my dell

Didn't look into the cause of the problem further I think the router used is not 100% compatible with WPA2. My macbook pro times out during connecting to the network, my dell connected just fine but as soon as I start Safari it gave a "network compromised" message and disabled the connection for several minutes...

Anyhow works now, so many thanks!!!
