Default How long should it take to boot? - 05-07-2009, 09:40 PM

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering what the average or 'proper' or 'correct' or 'healthy' (you get the point) boot time should be on a Mini 9 running OS X.

From the time I pushed the power button it just took my Mini about 60 seconds to get to the OS X login screen. I've seen some videos where this happens MUCH faster.

Any ideas?

EDIT: I reinstalled DellEFI, and the time from POST to login screen dropped to below 30 seconds, which seems much more reasonable. So, has anyone found the optimal settings for Dell Mini 9 booting and performance? :-)

In my experience, it all depends on your SSD. When I had a Crucial 32gb SSD, my boot time was about 42 seconds. Now that I'm running on a RunCore 32gb, it's about 24 seconds.

When in doubt, just reinstall DellEFI a few times, right?

I'm down to 30 seconds or less on the stock 32GB SSD from Dell, and my GeekBench score is up to about 930 from 400.

SHEESH that's fast! I get about 30 seconds from button push to login screen, with another 10ish seconds to usable desktop. 1GB RAM, 64GB RunCore, DellEFI 1.1, 10.5.6, A04. Once my 2GB RAM arrives, I'm going to A05/DellEFI 1.2a5 to see if there's a speed bump. I hope there is...

Hmmm not sure if there's any advantage on moving to A05 for speed. If you're planning of running Windows then yeah I would suggest moving up to A05. If you're staying on one OS then you should be fine with A04. Have you custimized your start up to load other programs? Sometimes this happens to slow down your system but not by much.

As seen on the video I posted of my Mini, it's pretty fast.

I am also on the ~25 seconds from the moment I push the power button. SilentBoot enabled. This is on a 32GB RunCore.

On the Dell stock SSDs, it is about ~30/~32 seconds. Same config.

Beats any other that I have seen. Not even a MacBook Air w/ SSD drive is this fast.
