Default **Success** Windows 7 on VirtualBox - 05-07-2009, 02:04 AM

Ok. I'm trying to get this to work but I think I'm lost. Ok I took a 4GB thumbdrive and formatted it for:

Master Boot Record and just made one partition on it called Windows 7.

I put the Windows 7 that I burned on a CD in my Mac and opened it up and dragged all the contents on the thumbdrive.

Not sure why you need to drag it to a "disk" on the Mini. It's been a while since I used Parallels (I switched everything to VirtualBox), but they both ought to let you install Windows 7 from the CD / DVD directly.

Just create a new virtual machine, follow the "wizard", specify a VDI (virtual disk) for the Win7 installation (mine needed like over 5GB I think), and all the other useful info. Then edit the config, and tell VirtualBox to mount the DVD/CD (this can be done directly with an ISO as well), and boot up the VM. That ought to start the Win7 installation process.

Ok. I failed: I'm using Virtual Box and I downloaded the windows 7 from the website. The ISO is sitting on the desktop. Does it need to be imaged or converted?

Go to the Settings of the virtual machine instance you created and under Storage go to CD/DVD and mount the ISO.

I managed to install 32-bit Windows 7 RC1 on parallels 3 by using the Windows Vista settings. I just did a manual install and it all went on as expected. The network card is not work with it and I've not had time to play with that yet. This was on my 15" macbook pro.

I've not used virtualbox before, could the iso be damaged?

The iso is not damaged because I installed it on my brothers PC.
