Default Copy/Paste, Battery Meter and Spotlight gone !!?? - 05-03-2009, 09:51 AM

Hi,

I have the 10.5.6 retail version installed on an 8GB SSD (without printer drivers and other stuff). I run Monolingual and released some space (removed all except English and Inter arqhitectural). I also moved some aplications to my 16GB Micro SD (connected in the SD slot), and yesterday i had about 200MB free...but strangly, the battery meter desapeared. Yesterday night Spotlight also disapeared and i can't copy/paste.

I checked SSD right now and i have 0kb free ???

Is this normal ? Is it because of lack of free space that this happened ??

Could you please help me ?

Thanks a lot !!!

The only thing I can think that happened is that you do not have automatic updates turned off.

Go to system preferences and check Software update (it is in System) uncheck the Check for updates button.
Then go to the directory that stores the updates and move them to trash. ( I was looking for the directory but I cannot find it on my system at the moment. I think it only appears when you have updates to install)

Hope this helps... I think it may be your problem since I had something like this occur to my unit also.

Miles

Hi Miles,

Thanks for your post, but my 10.5.6 was already fully updated when i restored my 8GB SSD.

Could it be Internet temporary files (like in Windows ??)

I have an 24" iMac with 500 GB HDD (and have other 3 iMacs before) and nothing like this happened to me before...

Strange. I know on mine I rapidly ran out of room overnight and the reason was the automatic update. So the Java, ilife, itunes etc updates are already installed?

Sounds like you probably have more experience with os x than I do .

Have you emptied your trash?

After I ran monolingual etc. I had over 700 mb free on my 8 gb ssd.

Hi again,

I had that same free space after monolingual, but i spent all yesterday's afternoon surfing on the net and at the end of the day i had run out of space.
...of course my trash is empty...

I moved a lot of applications to my 16GB MicroSD, but no i can't move them anymore because i can't copy/paste...

Hi Guys,

I boot from my external drive and managed to move some applications to my MicroSD card...i have now 230 MB free

My spotlight came backagain and i manage to copy/paste again...but my Battery Meter is still missing...

Do you know if it's from lack of free space ??
