Default No sound in OSX - 05-02-2009, 06:58 PM

Been running 10.5.6 OSX for several months and had to run the upgrade manually to reinstall 10.5.6 to fix a problem with OSX disk access. Worked fine and fixed the hard disk problem, but now I have no sound. Re-ran Dell EFI 1.1, but no improvement. When I go into the sound applet in system preferences, it shows no audio devices. Any idea on how to get sound working again?

Thanks in advance.

Try deleting the sound-related kexts, and then reinstalling. Use Terminal like this:

sudo -s
(enter password)

cd /System/Library/Extensions
rm -r ./AppleHDA.kext

rm -r ./HDAEnabler.kext

rm -r ./AppleAzaliaAudio.kext

rm -r ./ALCInject.kext

Now, close terminal and reinstall from the dellefi program. When you reboot, I think it will work.

Thanks, not sure what exactly I just did; after entering the first line in terminal it asked me about a million files that I just hit enter for and after that it would tell me the file was not found for all the remaining entries. But after reinstalling DellEFI and rebooting, sound is back.

Thanks again, I really appreciate the help.
