Default SuperTalent 32GB - 04-30-2009, 06:55 PM

FYI:

I recently installed a SuperTalent 32G drive in my Mini 9. For the price, it is the perfect upgrade and the speed is roughly the same as the stock 8G I replaced. (Note: I have not done benchmarks, but really, that's not my game!) For email, web surfing and watching movies, I can't imagine throwing away more money for a faster drive.

Would I recommend it? Yes.

Hope that helps someone who is considering the drive.

I ordered a 16gb SuperTalent. Windows 7 installed fine but for the life of me, I couldn't get OSX on it. Then it started giving me input/output errors and wouldn't partition properly and I realized it was defective. My replacement has been working flawlessly.

I have this 32GB SSD as well. It runs OSX just fine. Occasionally I'll get a short pause opening a menu or running a program, but that's a price I'm definitely willing to pay.

I am running one of these. It's been great thus far; I don't feel like I need the performance of a RunCore at all.

I'm also running a Super Talent 32G with osX. I also run Microsoft Office no problems. It 's a little slow when I use Aperture but I'm storing photos on 16G SDHC card. Aperture runs slower than my Imac but thats to be expected. Have a friend who has a mac book and he was surprised how snappy it runs. No hard numbers though. Over all I'm very pleased

Nice to know there are some decent, lower cost options to the Runcores. (Although compared to SLC based SSDs, Runcores are very reasonably priced)

The best part is, next year... there'll be even more options to choose from. It'll only get better.

So that's the culprit for my constant "pauses". I have the same drive and I'm having the same problem. I thought SSDs were faster than their counterparts but I've never hard such issues with my Powerbook G4. Is there any way to alleviate the pausing feature of the SuperTalent?

I also have the SuperTalent 32 GB. Works beautifully for me, especially since I couldn't justify the cost of a Runcore, especially when I see how many people have issues with them.

It dawned upon me that a RAM disk may help alleviate the pausing issues with the super talent because there may be less need to go to disk. I don't have my mini now to experiment but maybe some more knowledgeable folk may have attempted this or may be willing to give it a try.
