Yeah. As is stated in other threads in the Snow Leopard subforum...

NetbookInstaller .8.2RC4 will allow you to boot into the Snow Leopard installer... but anything beyond that point will not work.

Yes, this is a good start, but you will manually need to load the required kexts and patches beyond this point... or have patience and wait until NetbookInstaller is updated to further support Snow Leopard.

For the time being, I do not mind being fully content with my 100% working Leopard 10.5.8 install. Once there has been further support added for Snow Leopard maybe I will dive in and do some testing

I tried creating a USB image of Snow and using NBI .8.2 RC to boot the installer. No good. At least not on my 10v. Mind you I only got it yesterday with the A06 bios. That might have something to do with it. 10.5.6 works. 10.5.7 update does not. 10.5.8 update does not.

A quick update, I tried the 10.5.8 roll-up again, and it worked. It's showing 10.5.8 now. I'll keep trying to somehow prepare the Snow USB key to boot and install 10.6 - not sure why 5.7 or 5.8 wouldn't work before. Just froze up. Anyway, making progress.

by the way anybody tried getting the image off the $29 dvd because some people say it needs to see leopard and some people don't and i'd rather not have to buy leopard and snow leopard to put on my mini.

Has anyone confirmed that dellEFI was to be successful with the snow leopard? I do know that it has less gb's required to install which is a huge plus for our ssd's. also reduce the performance that leopard has and snow leopard reduced that. Im looking forward to this topic about DellEFI.

The $29 upgrade disc is a full version. You can install on a blank HD.

Although not completely ethical... I guess it is better to spend $30 and buy the Upgrade Disk rather than pirate it

How is it not ethical? If Apple didn't want to allow it to install on a blank disc they would have created the installer so it couldn't. The disc is labeled "Snow Leopard Upgrade." There is not a disc called Snow Leopard Full or whatever. That's how it comes.

I had problems making the 10.5.6 to 10.5.7 upgrade. I noticed issues with the mini 9 not recognizing usb devices plugged in to the ports after starting the computer--they had to be in a the time I turned the machine on and couldn't just be plugged in afterwards. Searching the forums didn't show any articles about others experiencing this problem, so I though I might need to update from the A04 BIOS to A06.

At the risk of deviating off topic, I called Dell today to help me install the BIOS upgrades from A04 to A05--I didn't actually see the A06 upgrade on the site yet; maybe I have to upgrade from A04 to A05 before it shows me A06? Anyway, I got error messages that the WinPhlash (sp?) tool couldn't upgrade the BIOS, and while working with the Dell technical staff to install the BIOS upgrade the mini 9 became a complete brick. I've learned that there is a motherboard fault that can cause this problem and now it must go back to Dell for a motherboard replacement because it won't even turn on any more. I'm glad it is under warranty.

Let my little computer's death be an example to others -- if you're trying to upgrade from the A04 BIOS to the A05/A06 BIOS be warned that there is a possibility of bricking your computer. Not as a result of anything to do with the Mac OS X install, but because of a possible latent defect in the motherboard. Consequently, I recommend upgrading to the most recent BIOS with the Windows software still installed and before attempting to install OS X, just in case you have to send it back to Dell for repair.

I won't see my mini 9 back and in working condition for at least two weeks. On the bright side, by the time I get it back the folks here will probably have figured out how to install Snow Leopard.
