Default can't create dsdt.aml file... - 04-22-2009, 10:45 PM

hey,

I ran dellEFI 1.1 and got an error about creating dsdt.aml file. I am a Mac noob, so my troubleshooting skills are minimal, but I tried using Finder to find dsdt.aml because I read up on people having to delete and recreate it, but I can't seem to find the thing. I tried the alpha 1.2, same thing.

That being said, the osx dell mini loads without the boot usbs, but it seems really slow to startup (2 minutes or so), could this be due to the dsdt.aml issue?

All I have done to the machine is upgrade to 2gb.

One other quick question: Last time I rebooted, it was taking forever at the loading scrren, so I left the room, and came back about 30 minutes later. Upon returning, I found the screen was black, and I couldn't seem to get it to wake up (not sure if there is a specific key to use)...I followed the how-to on here, so hiberate/sleep should be de-activated, correct?

err...apparently the black screen is some kind of sleep mode, if I hold the power button it comes back. However, I get an error about improperly removing a storage device, probably because I had a USB plugged in when it fell asleep.

Regarding the dsdt.aml file not being created, it looks like it is causing audio problems. It is interesting that there doesn't seem to be dsdt.aml file on the machine, yet it cannot be created, either....

Any assistance would be amazing, so so close to trying out OSX...

dsdt.aml is hidden in the Finder. If DellEFI won't remove it for you, you can delete it at a terminal:
Code:
sudo rm -rf /dsdt.aml
Then run DellEFI and recreate it.

The system will go to sleep after a few minutes idle. You'll know because the power led pulses on and off in sleep. Hit the power button to wake it back up. Also make sure you have USB legacy support turned off in the BIOS or it will crash upon waking. You can adjust the sleep/power settings in the System Preferences under Energy Saver.

Problem solved . . .

After struggling for two weeks with DellEFI's reluctance to build a new dsdt.aml file, a buddy on mine said,
"Hey, how 'bout you unplugging that USB dongle for your Kensington mouse and trying one more time?" Out with the USB dongle, and voila, no more problems with building the dsdt.aml file!

This is an undiscussed issue, but it is proven to be an issue to me; no USB dongle, and I'm good to go.

Default Having similar problem - 05-18-2009, 12:30 AM

I went through the hell of trying to upgrade to 10.5.7, I tried the recommended method and ended up with the garbled white screen. Then I tried the boot to safe mode, rename extras folder, run EFI and recreate, but the EFI failed to create the dsdt file, and when I tried to reboot all I could get was the blue screen of death. Then I tried as another suggested boot from cd, then run EFI 1.1 and reboot, which didn't work, back to the blue screen again. So I tried boot from cd, run EFI 1.2a5, installed the new boot loader, reinstalled the extras, and this time it would boot and everything works ok but neither the 1.1 or 1.2a5 would create the dsdt.aml file. I tried deleting it from terminal, but the file doesn't exist. I tried running EFI in safe mode and it still won't create the file. Any ideas? I don't have any dongles etc plugged in so I don't think that is the problem.

After trying several times to create the dsdt file using the custom setting in EFI and failing I finally tried running EFI without selecting custom and it created the file with no problem. So now my hackintosh is back up and running smoothly!

Same here... after several attempts to get rid of the old one and run the customized EFI, I finally just ran it once without selecting custom and it worked!
