If you're running in clamshell mode, it'd be a good idea to monitor the CPU temperature. You really don't want it to go above 90-95C or it'll shorten the life of the chip and eventually turn it back into sand.

The correct way to do so on a macbook is...
1)Connect external mouse and keyboard and AC adapter
3)connect external monitor
4)wake up with external mouse or keyboard.
I dunno if this will work the same on the mini or not, however the above method has worked on the macbook/pros for some time.
