Default Workaround for no-restart-after-sleep? [Resolved] - 04-21-2009, 12:48 AM

Hi,

Even though I know that I can't restart after the unit has gone to sleep, I keep trying to do so. After a few black screens, I was wondering if there is a workaround for this. Is there a patch or something so that if you try to restart, it gets routed to shutdown instead?

Thanks.

Edit: Resolved here.

The problem:
The apple menu selection for "restart" no worky...
So try this:
Touch the power button lightly once - a window should appear giving options for restart, sleep, shutdown, cancel.
This does the trick for me!

Interesting idea, but I don't know if anyone has produced such a patch. I did what you're doing for a while, too, until I rewired my brain to always hit "shutdown". It took a few days.

Good advice above. Pressing the power key quickly and then clicking restart works every time.

Wow it is ***HARD*** not to use the menu, I am programmed like a robot! I might have to put some tape on the screen where the Restart menu item appears!!! ;-)

Huh, mine hangs, but all I have to do is press Esc and a few seconds later I see the Dell screen. Weird.

Really? I assume this was a known issue. I just tried it and after closing the machine to put it to sleep, I opened it and then tried to restart. I get a black screen and I can't get it to respond at all. Neither pressing the power button or the Esc key does anything. I have to do a power off via holding down the power button.

This is on a 10.5.6 install with DellEFI 1.1. What versions are you guys running?

I just restarted after sleep as well, with no problems. Mine install was 10.5.6 retail with DellEFI 1.1, minus printer drivers and a lot of language files. I've never had problems with sleep on my mini.

This might be a case of buggy hardware in some Minis.

I am also having this problem but I am used to it and can live with it.
But.. If anybody would like to have a look what is causing this.. Greatly appreciated.

Could it be because i (and others) have 2gb ram?
