Default Cannot load XP with VMware? anyone have issues? - 04-16-2009, 01:31 AM

xp will start to install, then it gets to around 70% and gives me an error saying it cannot locate shell32.dll. Anyone have a problem loading XP onto the mini with VMware fusion? i am using version 2, i had the same error with version 1. The XP disk i know is good. I did a search on the net and found that people that have a PC have had this problem with bad memory, would this be the same case as a virtual machine? osx is working great.

i had no problems installing and running XP home on a virtual machine Fusion 2.0.2. i also loaded an Ubuntu 9.04 virtual appliance from VMware. i couldn't install the Dell Ubuntu that came with the machine touhgh... it took for ages to get anywhere i gave up, but got no errors.

VMware worked for me fine. I installed off the XP recovery disk that came with the system. It isn't particularly fast, but i wasn't really expecting it to be.

Wow, I was thinking about a getting XP for a virtual environment, but thought the Atom processor is too sluggish for emulation, so I just repartitioned my 64GB SSD drive to pop XP at the end in a 5GB spot. How well does VMware/Parallels run?

Major problems here. Looks like Fusion doesn't like XP slipstreamed with SP3. Trying to source SP2 only version at the moment.

Beyondthetech, VMWare is pretty fast for me on the Atom. Keep in mind that it's not emulation, but virtualization, and most instructions run hardware. There's a slight virtualization penalty, but XP still runs almost as quickly as a dual-boot setup.

For all of you wanting virtualization inside of OSX-- you might want to give VIRTUALBOX a try. (Yes, it's free).

I've been using VirtualBox on linux, Vista, and now-- OSX - with various guest hosts inside. For me, it works flawlessly. Performance in XP in VB is really quite good.

I had no trouble runing xp on vmware fusion 2. I ripped the Dell XP disc into an ISO and put that on a flash drive. Then I installed XP from the iso on vmware. The first time I did it, I loaded XP onto a class 6 sdhc. Lagged too much. So installed it on my 16gb SSD next. Runs great now. I have 2gb of ram which helps too.

No problems here. I used the Disk that comes with the Windows based models to make it work.
