Default Alarm system for our Mini's!!!!! - 04-14-2009, 09:52 PM

Ok guys I ran into something on YouTube today. The app is called iAlertU

Here's the link:

http://ialertu.en.softonic.com/mac

The program will basically take a picture of the culprit and email to an email address. Since Mini's don't have motion sensing you can configure it to go off if:

Any Key is pressed
Trackpad is touched
Laptop is closed
Power cord is disconnected

I don't have a camera on Mini so I can only take advantage of the above 4. If you have a camera I don't know if the camera funtion will work but I would imagine it would. Just thought I'd share this.

The program also works with the Apple Remote. If you don't have an Apple Remote and you have an iPhone or iPod Touch you can download the app rowmote. I haven't got it to work yet but I'm guessing I'd have to edit the .plist file or something. I'll let you guys know.

Anyway I put my volume all the way down on the Mini and activated it and the thing scared the crap out of me. I had to run outside and disable the password because I was sitting at work at my desk.

Enjoy.

Yeah. I had this on my Macbook Pro for about 4 days, then the novelty of the idea wears off.

Holy ****! My eardrums hurt because of the sound. Having issues with disabling the noise. What keys do you press on a Mac to disable the noise?

The screen blinks black which I assume would be normal to do. The Rowmote app for the iPhone is worthless and doesn't work to enable the alarm and disable it. I know it's an application but I imagined it to be an exact replica of the exact Apple Remote hardware. If you youtube iAlertU on youtube you see him disabling and enabling the app with his remote. I mashed on the keyboard to shut the damn thing off but it wouldn't. I'm guessing it would be Apple button + something else.

I ended up holding the power button down while covering my ears. I guess I have sensitive ears or something.

 I do not remember the button to press to disable, I think it only works with the remote or it would be pointless. Then the "thief" could run away with your Mac after disabling the alarm. And the iPhone app would not work because I do not think the app uses the IR sensor.

Epic Fail I guess...
