Re: I fancy giving OS X a try... help! - 04-14-2009, 06:05 PM
I am a brand-n00b to OSX and mac OS as a whole. I have spent my entire life on windows machines, and when my wife recently asked for a mac notebook, and i quote "but it has to be a small computer like those mini dells" I thought about the perfect birthday present.
Getting to the point, I had no access to a mac computer, so I took the external DVD route, and everything went super smooth.
Check here and here for methods/guides.

Of course this just covers installing OSX on to the system - not for dual booting. It appears that the methods described that I've seen require an external DVD to establish a dual boot.
Success also really depends on the size of the SSD drive you're putting in the system. You'll need at least a 16 GB but would be safer with a 32 GB and even better with a 64 GB drive. I don't know that I've read of anyone successfully dual booting XP and OSX on less than 32 GB but I'm pretty sure you can fit both - it's just a question of what else you can do with it after that because you will be tight for space.
Here's the FAQ on dual booting: http://mydellmini.com/forum/woooohooooo ... t1699.html
