The super long boot is due to the issue with the dsdt.aml file... I originally included a copy in 0.3 but Meklort warned about potential issues with this method. Others would have to test it out to see if they do run into issues with it... I could still offer that method as an option.

At this point I have my drive "OSXDVD" with my DVD image on it, and a flashdrive with "DellEFIBootMaker0.3.2" on it. I opened the application, clicked "Make Dell EFI USB Boot Key" and it says "OSXDVD installation completed".

So when I boot, is it booting from the same drive with the DVD image on it? Because when I do that it goes through the whatever you call it (black screen with all the white technical terms and codes I don't understand) and then gets to "AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement : initialization complete" sticks for a little, then says "Still waiting for root device", sticks, repeats the message again and that's where it is now. Is this the "disappointing long time boot" as mentioned in the post above?

EDIT: Ok, I went and ate, and now it says "still waiting for root device" about 25 times, so I don't think it's gonna work seeing how fast bmaltais' went in the video. :? HALP!
What version of OSX DVD do you have? I have tested the method with 10.5.0 and 10.5.6... I think there are disk out there based on 10.5.4 as well.

You might want to download version 0.3 (http://mydellmini.googlecode.com/files/ ... ker0.3.zip) and use it to install. It does not contain "postinstall" so you won't be able to boot from the internal SSD without using the USB boot disk. You will need to boot from the USB stick in and select the SSD as boot partition. When booted (with video and sound) create your account and then upgrade to 10.5.6 (if you run an older version). Reboot after the upgrade and then boot again with the USB key. You can now install DellEFI to put the final touch.

You could always include 3 different dsdt files, one for 512mb, 1gb, and 2gb configurations. That way the user can select the correct one.
Also, once the code is available it would be VERY easy to select one of the three dsdt's instead of modifying the source to selectively patch the table (still doable though).
Hopefully they release the source code soon and I can fix it. I have looked at the chameleon dsdt patch (used in pc efI) and it looks like I should be able to easily modify it

Have you actually seen issues with a dsdt that was done on a system on a system with more or less memory? I am asking in case it is more of a theoretical issue vs one that hit you every time... and since at the end of the installation one could still create a custom dsdt.aml... But would creating a custom dsdt over the one already loaded result is proper memory info in the new dsdt?

I'm using a 10.5.6 disk, so that should be cool. I'll try using version .3, but just to make sure I'm gonna do it right I'll ask you to clarify a couple things. By no postinstall, are you saying that it won't fail, or that at the screen saying that it failed, you just hit the reboot button, and skip the process in terminal? And by install DellEFI, you just mean like DellEFI 1.1 or one of the other versions right? Like, I'm not missing something here right?

The install will state that if failed at the end. This is fine. You won't need to run postinstall from the terminal since it is absent from this release... You will then need to install DellEFI 1.1 on your system and all should be fine.

If you are tempted in trying version 0.3.3 (http://mydellmini.googlecode.com/files/ ... ker3.3.zip) you will be able to run postinstall at the end in the terminal and be able to boot into OSX without needing the USB key. You will still have to run DellEFI to set things permanently.

Version 0.3.3 include a dsdt.aml file for quickly booting to the installer and also contain postinstall with custom DSDT... so possibly the best of both world.

You can use 0.3.3 just like is shown on the video. There is a chance it might not work but worst case you can go back to 0.3 If you try it let me know how it went as you will be the 1st to try it ;-)

Ha I'd be glad to try it out for you! No promises though as I haven't gotten anything else to work yet. :? Also, your download link isn't right, you linked it to .3.3, and it didn't work, but just as I suspected I put in 0.3.3 and it found the file

That actually wont help. Since you load a patched dsdt, the patcher is going to try to patch the loaded dsdt, not the original dsdt. So in effect, It'll be like including the patched dsdt and never running the patcher.

Hello

Wrong link to 0.3.3

I'm still unable to install it onto my OSXDVD partition - I'm getting Can't install postinstall to OSXDVD!?

Thanks again for your work

Have you restored the 10.5.6 (or other) OSX Install DVD in the OSXDVD partition before running DellEFIBootMaker? DellEFIBootMaker is looking for folders put there during the restore process... Most likely why.
