I remember when I was trying to install OSX on my Mini 9 and trying to find out how long exactly the process took but failed to find any indication anywhere so I decided to time it during a reinstall. So here it is and hopefully it can help someone in the process.
10.35pm Partition SSD
10.40pm Begin installation of OSX
11.15pm OSX installation complete
11.15pm Reboot and boot off of SSD
11.23pm Continue to customize and configure OSX installation
11.31pm OSX config complete
11.34pm Install AboutThisMac
11.37pm Install DellEFI
11.44pm Welcome screen
11.45pm I do the snoopy dance because I’m done!
Install time: 70 minutes
Boot time: 52 seconds on a 32gb Crucial SSD
. It’s slow for me so I’m eagerly anticipating the arrival of my 32gb RunCore SSD Lessons learned:
1. Never use a card reader like I did the first time. I tried to save money because I had large capacity CF cards. The process was tedious and slow.
2. When creating a new partition set to GUID, name it with ONE WORD and NO SPACES. By default, it will try to name it Untitled 1. Make sure there’s at least an underscore [_] in the name.
Thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts on the install thread. Every little bit helped!
