Default Wanted to say thank you to this forum and the software devs - 04-10-2009, 05:44 PM

Well, decided to throw OSX on my mini last night (on an external HDD... still boot XP via SSD). This isn't the first time I've installed OS on generic hardware (or non-apple atleast), but due to the guides posted and the outstanding software this community put together (kexts, DellEFI, DELLminiboot) it was a piece of cake.

I had installed it previously with an old iAtkos (10.5.2) DVD, but with lack of sound/networking/proper video support, it left a lot to be desired. With the information on these boards and the software, it really did make the process as painless as possible.

with that said, thank you
-steve

I'd love to add my 2p's worth and say that the installation experience of putting OS X onto a Dell Mini 9 using the kits provided on this forum has been nothing but fun and reasonably seamless. There was just enough tinkering required to get the Leopard retail 10.5.6 DVD onto my 8GB SSD to keep me challenged and entertained...!

Once again, thank you to everyone who has taken an amazing OS and an amazing piece of hardware and made them such a match made in heaven.

Cheers all!

I'll jump in and say thanks too. Bought a mini 9 specifically for this purpose and it runs beautifully with os x. The developers on this forum are saints. You guys are great.

Another expression of thanks from me. If there's a donate button somewhere, I want to press it.

Mods on this site seriously need to add a donate link to the top of the page. It takes money to run this site and it would be well deserved for all the hard work put into this site?

same here. many, many thanks for all of the hard work that went into the how-to guide(s) of the os x installation. i'm just a newbie/casual user of os x, but having it on the mini 9 has been a great experience. the guide made it so easy that i sometimes have to read the recent posts to remind myself not to take it for granted that i have a working os x on the mini 9 with everything functional (even sleep and verizon broadband). maybe hibernate will work later

when i have some time, i'll redo my os x installation and try to document every step and maybe i can add to the dellefi dvd-method section. i'm surprised that method is not pushed more than the other methods. it doesn't require a mac, so it's a true os x introduction.

as far as not everyone has access to an external cd/dvd drive, i think people don't realize how easy it is to get one. just buy a usb-to-ide kit from ebay (about $12 from what i remember) and get an internal ide cd/dvd from an old desktop. these desktops are being junked right and left with those cd/dvd drives going (literally) to the dumpsite.

Need to add my two cents and say thanks to everyone's hard work. The install was simple and well documented even if it there were multiple sources

I now have a Dell Mini9 obsidian black with the carbon skin from sgpstore.com

Thanks

I'd like to add my thanks to everyone who had a hand in this project. I bought a Mini 9 only because you folks made it possible to install OS X on it. I'm a long-time Mac user but never had much desire to tinker with software. You provided a straightforward installation method that yielded successful results. Thank you *very* much!

Me too. I bought the Mini only to turn it into a MiniBook and now I've got one--and it was all made possible only via this forum and the developers. Thanks!
