Default Unable to boot from USB device - 04-09-2009, 06:24 PM

On the BIOS Setup screen there is an exclamation mark next to USB Storage. USB Legacy devices is enabled. If a USB thumb drive is plugged in it will show up under USB Storage but the only USB device I've ever been able to boot from is a DVD drive.

I formatted an 8GB Crucial thumb drive & restored a disk image of Mac OS X install to it but even it wont show up as a boot option.

Is this normal or should I have the option of booting from a USB device?

not all usb disks are bootable by default. mechdrew has instructions in has FAQ topic on how to write boot files to a non-booting usb flash disk that should help you make it bootable
