WiFi Printing. Help Needed. - 04-08-2009, 03:18 AM
Hey I purchased a Canon PIXMA MX860 printer yesterday.
Here are the specs in case they might help.

It's Wifi enabled and I got it working for my desktop. The printer is goliath so I have it in another room and printing works fine. The initial setup required me to plug printer to desktop, load drivers, setup wifi. After setup I could disconnect my USB from PC and just have printer plugged in since it uses WiFi.
Now I tried to print a document I wrote on my mini and I don't know how to detect the printer on the Mini. Now I called Canon and got an English speaking American both times (thank god) and explained the issue. He stated I would need to load the CD on the Mini to be able to print through WiFi.
That doesn't make sense at all because it should just work if anyone wants to print as long as they have your credentials. It'll defeat the purpose of the printer if I have to load it into my friends Macbook as well if he were to ever want to print something at my house.
Any ideas on how to do this? I can buy a BT dongle and plug it into printer as well and try that way but I want to be anywhere in my house rather than 30 -35 FT from printer which is usually the BT range. Any help would be appreciated.
