Default Tethering WindowsMobile phone over USB - 04-02-2009, 04:15 PM

i've used the internet sharing app on WM6.0 on XP systems with both USB and Bluetooth. and it works great. i can actually get 3Mb/s from my 3G phone. However, when i use bluetooth, i get less than 1Mb/s due to the small bandwidth of bluetooth over USB connection. On OSX i can get the bluetooth PAN to work fine like this:

however, i don't know how to get USB connection going. i would settle for bluetooth for now, except it seems my BT dongle causes a 100% hang-out-of-suspend mode that i have to power cycle to clear (remove battery and AC). which is too bad because all the bluetooth functionality seemed to work

i've found these directions http://networkjew.com/2009/03/30/tet...omment-page-1/ or http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/ind...1&#entry863141 several times, but my problem seems to be at this step

Now, go to your Network Preferences menu.

On the left side, you should see your list of Network Interfaces. Click the little “+” sign to add an interface. Click Interface drop down menu, and you should see a choice for “Samsung CDMA Technologies”. Go ahead and choose it, and click CREATE. it should populate itself on the left-hand pane now.
i never see a choice for anything other than

I have the same problem with the hanging BT and such. I'd really like to get my Moto Q9 to USB tether with my mini.

ok, i found this on another mini site. the ability to use a WM phone as a wireless (802.11/BT) AdHoc AP. even USB. however, it only seem to document Windows. However, the program doesn't use any host side software, so i don't see how it matters.

no luck with it initially. Network will recognize my phone over Wifi, but i don't get any assignments with DHCP.

hm.....

used 'none' for connection encryption and that worked. performance though is about what i get with BT. still more than one person can use it at once... something to think about, except it sucks my phone battery like crazy.

I’ve been trying to tether with usb to OS X with my WM 6.5 phone for a while now.

Even with mobile-stream’s modem drivers, my phone never pops up on my mini.
I tried them on my iMac once and my WM phone was recognized, but I could never connect.

The best I’ve been able to do is run XP in VMware and I can tether with usb in my virtual machine, but I cant share that connection with OS X.

Should this be this hard? With XP, install 2 drivers and you are on the internet. Heck with linux you don’t even need to do that., just plug in your phone and your on.
