Default Rotate Display in OS X for ebooks. - 03-29-2009, 04:44 AM

Just finished installing OS X on my dell mini. I plan to use it primarily as an ebook reader. Is there a way to rotate the display in OS X? I have 10.5.6. I kinda remember reading a post but didn't bookmark it and can't seem to find it via search. any help is appreciated.

No idea on a hack to enable rotation on the internal display, but if your ebooks are in pdf format you can always rotate in preview

One of the comic book readers lets you read on it's side, and it works wonderfully, hold the portable like a book . Hopefully a good ebook reader will do same.

The Apple GMA950 drivers have the capability to rotate the screen display - my Mac Mini has an option on the Displays preference pane to do this (as have all my various Macs over the last 5 years). However, it seems to be disabled on the internal screen of the Mini 9, though I don't know if it's because it's an internal screen, or because it would be too small, or because the driver is different...

Perhaps this could be changed by DellEFI, since it may be simply an inactivated facility?

I am still trying to figure out why you would want to rotate your entire display to portrait just to view an ebook...

as someone mentioned before, if you are using Preview to view the ebook as a .pdf then you can rotate it from within the software. If you are using some other ebook reader, please share what it is so we can help you further.

I am sure most modern ebook software will allow rotating the book from within the application rather than having to rotate your entire display orientation from landscape to portrait!

Part of the reason it may not allow you to rotate the internal display is that there's no way the menu bar is going to fit in a 600px wide area

You can try playing with your /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist file, but I haven't had any luck (Short of multiplying display sets )

Actually I should have phrased my question differently. I don't need the entire display but just the ebook to rotate. I am using Yep trial edition but it can rotate only by page and not the entire book (not sure if that was Yep or Adobe Acrobat.

Na, don't want to mess around with that. Just need to find a reader that would allow me to rate the book display.

And what format are the ebooks? As we have mentioned previously in this thread... if they are PDF then you can simply use Preview (built into OSX) and rotate it

I thought about this the other day.
It would be a cool thing to be able to do, but doubt it's possible.
