Re: Favorite Leopard tweaks for Mini 9? - 03-26-2009, 08:14 PM
this is more of a preference than a tweak.
on my macbook, i have the dock at the bottom because the screen proportion allows it.
on the mini 9, i have the dock on the right because the screen is a lot wider than it is tall.

I tried Quicksilver after a poster on this forum suggested it, this app has been essential to my dell mini experience. for example, instead of relying too much on the wonky trackpad, I've been using QS as an application launcher with Abracadabra, a plugin in QS.
there are several tutorials out there, but I can make a vid for those who are interested. Anyway, I hold Ctl (or any other preprogrammed key) and drag the cursor in any direction or make any motion with it that is preprogrammed. this opens/closes/hides/quits/does whatever I program the gesture to do in milliseconds.
Alternatively, you could rely on hotkeys, but with the size of this keyboard, this becomes a chore. So, Abracadabra or making gestures with the cursor, is the easiest thing to do to increase functionality on the dellmini.
My usage examples:
Ctrl-(drag cursor right) opens iTunes
Ctrl-(drag cursor left) = hide current application
Ctrl-(drag cursor down) = open Mail/iCal (you can open more than one app with one command!!!
Ctrl-(drag cursor left then down) = quit current application
you can preprogram another gesture to put the mini to sleep!!! to shutdown, restart, and so on (with Dockables (free)).
etc etc etc
There are just too many uses for this great app. Essential for such a small keyboard.
Anyway, this is not a tweak, but it will make anyone's life THAT much easier after learning to use this app. Give it a try.
